I chose "Brooklyn Vegan", a blog about music, photos and news. The layout of the site is straightforward and easy to use. The photos are crisp and the colors used for the layout of the site are pleasing. Overall, the fonts used are a good size, with the exception for the sidebar which are too small and hard to read. Every photo has a caption, recent comments are shown and the most popular entries are listed. This content allows the user to get the information without too much searching. There aren't too many advertisements, but I don't particularly like the static advertisement that is used for the background. The blog is current and includes many links to other resources and an "about us" page clearly describes who is behind the blog and what it is all about.
Stale Popcorn is another site I evaluated. It's a blog about "movie geekdom, celebrity worship, Australian film discussion....all wrapped up in the salty buttery taste of movie popcorn that's been sitting in the box for too long." WHAT?? The overall look of the blog is boring and uses bland colors. The only saving grace for this blog are the images included with each post. Other than that, there are so many problems! There are too many outgoing links to choose from and there is too much information below the fold...a no-no in web design because users need to use the scroll bar excessively. This site needs to be redesigned.
